SERENA YAU

My passion for physiotherapy came about from my many injuries on the ice as a semi-professional figure skater. During my sporting career, I had the pleasure of competing in the nationals.

Although I had numerous injuries from my slips, trips and bumps on the ice, I also had injuries off the ice. These injuries led to numerous sessions of physiotherapy treatments to feel less pain and discomfort, as well as regain confidence in my body's ability to return to normal activities. Like a car having an MOT, I was truly grateful for the physios who helped me recover.

I have worked in the NHS as a physiotherapy assistant and as a chartered physiotherapist. I have had exposure to varied departments such as medical, critical care, orthopaedics, stroke rehab, community rehab and outpatient clinics. These experiences have given me holistic knowledge and understanding how to improve the quality of life based around the care needs of the individual.

I love that I’m able to blend my NHS work with working here at the Wickford physiotherapy clinic; my experience means I'm able to extend my practise and treat patients from various backgrounds alongside work with a very supportive team.

Improving the quality-of-life day by day with individuals makes me proud to be a physiotherapist. I strive to continue with up-to-date practise and broaden my knowledge with recent research. Being a physiotherapist isn’t just about tending to physical needs. The therapist part extends to listening to any troubles or concerns big or small that may be affecting your well-being.
